I think we should try to keep the software listed here just to whats flat-out free. Perhaps if someone wants, we can start a second thread to the tune of Not Exactly Free, But Worth It! Software. As a general rule, any software with a trial period isnt free, so we should probably keep it out of this thread in order to keep with the threads theme. (And BTW this isnt directed at anyone in particular.)
So lets keep it up, guys! What other free software you do like? :)

So is this guy going to write to Steve Jobs every time he finds an iPad on eBay for $100 less than retail? How about 1 auctions?
On that subject, w ww.madbids.com can't show their TV adverts in the UK anymore, as they are misleading their customers.
Another point... I expect that TJ MAXX just bought up a bunch of the Refurbished iPads and is taking a $50 loss on each to get people in the stores.
Selling refurbished iPads as new _would_ be illegal. And I'd be curious where they would have found refurbished iPads.
Is this specific to iPad and iPod? The standard warranty most certainly transfers, since I have bought a Powerbook long ago on CraigsList and used the warranty to get repairs.
You'd have to check what warranty Apple gives voluntarily, and what warranty they are required to give by law. Whatever they give you voluntarily, they can set the rules. They are probably fine with people buying Macs and selling them a year later used (that's actually good for Apple because those people then have cash to buy a new Mac), but don't like unauthorised resellers (because they make Apple's authorised resellers unhappy).

I am assuming this is a cluster? I seriously doubt that would be enough space for every person to access their iTunes content via the cloud. The only conceivable way is if you were limited to the amount of space (like allocated into your 20GB default mobileme account). That would be weak. There are and have been options out there to use your home mac as a media server over the net. Orb is one of them. Besides, any unfortunate souls that were not grandfathered into the unlimited iPhone/iPad data plan would destroy their 3G usage. I still think ATT is the weakest link here for those. I am fortunate enough to have the unlimited data, but many, many people out there do not. (How do you live with 2GB a month???)
Also, you can currently store music and video on your iDisk and access it via Quicktime on the iphone/pad/pod. It's just not a seamless interface with iTunes.
Since they bought Lala, we've been anticipating this: I am really hoping Apple can convince the music and movie labels to allow a streaming subscription service to compete with Mog and Rhapsody (I use Mog currently), but it doesn't look all too promising because these said studios and labels are already at the mercy of Apple via iTunes.
MobileMe is an ok service. I am a subscriber. But I think like the majority of everyone, I feel it can be so much more. The collaboration uses for MobileMe are extremely limited. For example: It's a shame that in order to collaborate with iCal (Read/Write both ends) you need to implement Google to make it work. That's lame. Anyway, enough ranting. Let's just say I really hope Apple finally blows us away with the possibilities in the cloud.... and sooner rather than later.

FCP is dieing. It lags well behind the other software and the killing of the xServer just adds more to it.

Yet another Notes hater here.
I first came across it at work in 1992 or so, back with version 2. We used it for our customer support and sales databases, and the company were still using it in 1999 when I finally left them. By then they were also developing a web-server product based on the current Notes webserver component, and re-launched the company around this product, floating the company to obtain extra venture capital. It was quite frankly the worst performing web server I'd ever seen, and the company folded when the money ran out.
As part of supporting this junk product I had to pass a Notes exam. For that I learnt how Notes mail handled multiple copies of the same large attachment within multiple mailboxes. I forget the full details, but there was a nightly process that ran through the mail database and consolidated such attachments. It was a horrible mechanism. The previous mail system I came from handled this in a far simpler way by simply using hard links.
A collegue once ran the then current Notes release under the debug version of Windows 3.1, and had never seen so many reported errors in code.
I'd also had to integrate Notes (version 4 I believe) into another E-mail sytem via a gateway at a customer. Configuring SMTP to an external source under Notes was a pain, and it took 3 'engineers' about 4 hours to try all of the combinations before we could get it to both send and receive mail.
I've come across Notes a few times since then. Still horrible.
The versions you have mentioned are from 10+ years ago. Why are you bringing this up? The Mac will get the latest version ported and I see it as a good thing. Whether you like it or not, Notes is used widely throughout many companies (over 120M "seats" worldwide) and having a modern up to date and supported version for the Mac is good.

Thank you, Apple, for weeding out the companies whose business model depends on selling my information to junk-mailers.
This is the kind of 'crazy-Steve-Jobs-control' I can live with.
Do you have any proof that FT actually does sell email addresses?
Just because businesses wants your email doesn't equate to they'll sell your details...

Can Apple really stop TJ Maxx from selling their iPads?
I thought the Authorised Reseller Programme was just that: an "Apple-certified" or "Apple-approved" reseller? Surely any reseller who doesn't have this "sign of approval" still can sell the iPad?
I don't really know the answer to that since every store which I've seen here in the UK which sells Apple products are authorised resellers.
Sorry if it's obvious, it's just that the response makes it sound like only retailers approved by Apple can sell their products; sort of like a cease and desist threat.
I think all the discussion on this thread about Authorized Resellers and what Apple could or could not do is really funny. In the break on this story was the following ad...obviously NOT an Authorized Reseller.

After reading his previous predictions, Shaw Wu is about as good a fortune teller as Carnac.
Yeah, what an idiot. Apparently this guy gets paid bug bucks to read about stuff on MacRumors and Slashdot all day and assemble them into predictions.

man these 2684's are killing me. i didn't make the deadline for the last one b/c of 2 power outages
How? Unless the power outages were each 6 hours long, there is no way. However, since it's full blown snow storms up north, I guess those must be common, just like down here in Honduras. Albeit for entire different reasons:D:p:eek:
I forgot to mention, if anyone has a PS3, download the Folding client to it! It works towards keeping our pace!
